Gapura Maung Bandung (Sudirman)

The design of this gate applies details in art deco style. It was built by the government as a memorial of area/district borders created in colonial era Bandung. The four maung (the sundanese word for ‘tiger’ the animal) are made in part to represent Maung Persib, the city’s paraded football club, symbolizing the spirit of Maung Bandung, the city’s football club symbol. This maung object is made of resin. The maung sculptures displayed on the gate at its initial release received sharp criticism from the public and especially the city’s football supporters because instead of representing the maung, they think it looks more like a seal. Ewon as a sculptor then made 12 new maung sculptures to replace the old ones.
