Monumen Singo Edan

The Singo Edan monument, which was 2 meter long from snout to tail and 2.5 meter high, has become an icon of harmony for residents of two sub-districts, namely Samaan and Rampal-Celaket, located on Kaliurang Street. Created in 2000 by Malang-born artist, Ono Sumarsono. It cost 6 million rupiah and was funded independently by the residents of Samaan and Rampal-Celake. The statue was inaugurated a year later by Drs. Nicolaus Eko PgD. MSc., as the Head of Malang Police.

The Singo Edan monument shows a roaring gold-painted lion on a marble pedestal displaying its fangs with its left fore-legs on the ball. Its head looked smallish with fairly round ears. There was a hoop earring on the lion’s left ear and its claws were all out. The pedestal itself was made of reinforced cast concrete.
