Monumen Sister City Suwon
The diplomatic relationship between Bandung and Suwon City of South Korea was signed on August 27, 1997. This monument was made as a symbol of that agreement, placed at the intersection of Merdeka and Jawa Street, precisely near Vanda Park. The agreement was signed by the Mayor of Bandung, Wahyu Hamijaya and the Mayor of Suwon, Sim Jae Douk. This Sister City agreement covers the fields of economy, socio-culture, education, arts and sports with a main focus on the fields of education, social and culture.
The monument took the shape of the Hwaseong Fortress, one of the most famous places in Suwon City. On the front and back of the monument is a cube with the emblem of Bandung City and Suwon City. Another cube inscribed with “SISTER CITY”, “BANDUNG-SUWON” and “1997” is placed under it. In front of the monument sits an inscription stone signed on January 1, 2006, by Mayor Dada Rosada. This stone inscription is part of the inauguration of Sister City Bandung-Suwon Park.
