Patung Cepot

This made of cement and painted in white, red and black sculpture is located on the side of the road of Ir. H. Juanda, Bandung. The artist and why the sculpture was placed in its location was unknown, but by observing the area, it was probably made as an area mark of the Dago Tea House gallery and cultural center of West Java.

The Cepot Sculpture depicts the character from West Javanese Wayang Golek, a traditional form of puppet, named Cepot. It stands on a white base that has an octagonal shape. On top of it, Cepot stands with a gesture of polite greeting; he put his palms together and leaned forward slightly. The face and body of Cepot were colored red, referring to the color of Cepot’s Wayang Golek skin. He was barefooted and was wearing an iket on his head. His clothes were colored white. On the right side of Cepot’s body is a Kujang, a traditional West Javanese weapon.
