Patung KB
This statue depicts the old Family Planning (KB) logo. The Family Planning Program is a national scale program managed by the National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN) to control population growth and reduce birth rates in Indonesia.
This statue shows a symbol of a parent embracing a child in a heavily simplified form, the shape reduced to its most basic lines. The Family Planning Program is a program that began in the 60s and later spread out officially in the 70s during Suharto presidency in an effort to suppress population growth and manage various demographic problems. The program’s famous slogan is “Two Better Children” which is still echoed today. This sculpture was made in Bandung as part of the program’s introduction campaign. Same sculptures in different shapes were also erected across various cities in Indonesia during the initial campaign period from the 70s-90s. The sculpture was repainted in 2015. It was originally bronze, but was later painted in light blue. The condition of the sculpture currently looks unkempt. This can be seen from the paint that has peeled off. There are also a few ruptures in the main body of the sculpture.
Patung ini menggambarkan logo Keluarga Berencana (KB) lama, Program KB merupakan program skala nasional yang dikelola oleh Badan Koordinasi Keluarga Berencana Nasional (BKKBN) untuk mengendalikan pertambahan jumlah penduduk maupun menekan angka kelahiran di Indonesia. Di patung ini terlihat simbol orang tua yang sedang merangkul anaknya dalam bentuk yang telah sangat disederhanakan.
Program KB atau Keluarga Berencana merupakan sebuah program pada masa kepemimpinan Soeharto dalam upaya menekan pertumbuhan penduduk di Indonesia. Slogan terkenalnya adalah “Dua Anak Lebih Baik” yang masih digaungkan sampai sekarang. Patung ini dibuat sebagai bagian dari kampanye pengenalan program tersebut.
Patung ini dicat ulang pada tahun 2015. Warna tugu yang awalnya perunggu dicat menggunakan warna biru muda. Kondisi patung saat ini terlihat tidak terawat. Hal ini terlihat dari cat yang telah mengelupas. Terdapat pula kerusakan bentuk pada bagian utama patung.
