Tugu Harian Sinar Indonesia Baru

SiB landmark is located at the intersection of one of Medan’s busiest roads. This position frequently made this landmark a site of demonstrations. It has a rectangle shape and four big analog clocks as the main element. This shape creates a slight reference to the Big Ben in London, England. Only much simpler in shape and decorations. On its body that faces the Gatot Subroto boulevard is the slogan of Sinar Indonesia Baru, a local news company, who initiated this monument likely as a CSR (corporate social responsibility) program, similar to Mandiri and Bukopin landmarks. On the other side is the government’s symbol. When the team observed the site, the four clocks no longer functioned. There are some graffiti vandalisms, likely a result of the demonstrations, that covered the lower part of this landmark. Because of the strategic location, some informational banners were placed on its side, likely by the government.
