Tugu Taman Makam Pahlawan

This monument is placed within the Heroes Burial Ground Complex on Sisingamangaraja street. The site plan of the complex was divided into two sides based on faith. Right in the middle of that division is the monument, unifying both sides. The layout of the monument includes a very spacious rectangle court covered in tiles. In the farthest side of the court to the east stood a simple structure of five tall pillars with each top sharpening to the center pillar. The monument was colored entirely in white, while the court’s tiles were cream and red. The red tiles formed a straight line from the center of the monument towards the gate of the complex, almost like spilled blood. The body of the five pillars were clean, adorned only with a huge Garuda symbol. The five pillars could be interpreted as the five principles of Pancasila, the basis of Indonesia’s structure of constitution. The monument underwent a renovation in 2012, the Garuda symbol present now was a replacement. The old one was stored at the complex’s management office.
